CHENNAI: India retained the men’s Asia Cup hockey title with a resounding 7-2 win over Korea in the summit clash at the floodlit Mayor Radhakrishnan stadium here on Sunday.

Superb display

A holiday crowd was treated to some superb display by the Indians, who opened the scoring in the fourth minute through Shivendra Singh. Though Korea found the equaliser (9th minute) before long through Jang Jong Hyun, that was just about the brief moment when the contest went on even terms. The Indians changed gears and goals came at regular intervals. S.V. Sunil (13th) Prabhjot Singh (31st) provided the side a handy 3-1 lead at the halfway stage.

The Indians kept up the tempo and Rajpal found the cage with a rousing shot (42nd) from the top of the circle.

Ignace Tirkey then scored the fifth in the 53rd minute before Rajpal capped another (55nd). Prabhjot rounded off India’s grand show in the 64th minute.

The Koreans numbed by the Indian flourish were unable to find the rhythm even though Oh Dai Keun got a late goal (68th).
