Suresh Karunakaran's The Last Shade of Grey
This Friday when I got few tickets to watch a play by WMC Toastmasters, Bahrain at Gulf Air Club, Salmabad, I went with an open mind. Because this is the first time I am going to a theatre in Bahrain.
And I must say it was a wonderful experience.
The play was an adaption of Othello. Content was localized, character names were changed to Arabic names and story moved to an unknown location in Arabia.
It was no amateurish performance. Dialogues had a perfect blend of local content and the artistic touch, direction was superb, and the artists were at helm.
An effort that can beat Omkara!
The show was stolen by the lady who played the lead role - Dina, who gets killed in the end by the suspicious lover/husband Omar. Artist who played the villain role Istaq was also equally good.
Good background music, proper lighting, and quick to change-over between the scenes and most importantly an accent-neutral dialogue delivery.
The announcer claimed it was a 3-month effort that made this play happen. Looks like lot of efforts have gone behind to deliver this successful in front of an equally enthusiastic 150+ audience.
In all, a good Friday, in Bahrain, and a chance to look at some of them, utilizing their time better than beating around Seef Malls and Dana Malls.
Good Job WMC!
